blue mood - Melissa

Hello!

I'm soooo close to finishing this enormous undertaking ... my first knitting project in over a year, really, that I will finish in a timely fashion.  I start the lace border tonight and will try to get a few pictures this weekend as it starts coming off the needles.

And while that is happening I'll be trying to decide what to knit next.
It will be blue.
I think... : )

It's Been Many Moons ... posted by Melissa

A quick post to say hello and I've missed you all.  Life's been hectic and we're collectively holding our breath with hopes that the two year health crisis is finally past us.  We should know soon.  Until then, I'm celebrating a gorgeous end to a busy summer, a welcoming hug to an autumn of reconnecting with friends and family, and the amazing, glorious harvest super blood moon eclipse we were privileged to witness yesterday evening.

Hope this finds you and yours happy, healthy and doing the things that bring smiles to your faces.

howdy, homies - Melissa

Quiet in blogland ~ sorry.  Just back from vacation ~ I knit a whole inch on a sock so slow going in the craft department.  I've been reading a bunch and editing pictures from our trip.  More on that some other day.

Feeling like it's been awhile since we've gotten together ~ should we plan something?  Need to get out of my head for a few minutes and socialize.  Think about it, ladies, and let's pick a date.

Miss Kelli ~ are we going to jam this year?  None put up in 2014 and that's just not okay.  Must remedy that in 2015.

Miss Carrie ~ I miss you!  And I wouldn't be upset if you bring the Lil' Dude along.  His Auntie Lis misses him tons.

Miss Trudy ~ Dozer says thanks for the stay at Grandma Camp.  Thanks for watching him, although next time he's going to the beach with us.  It's just wrong to leave the dog at home when there is sand to be played in.

Oh, and lastly...anyone interested in Stitch and Pitch this year?  I could dig up the date and see if we could make it work.  Just let me know.

Can you tell I'm feeling a bit stir crazy?  Haha.  I love you guys :)

edited to add: I'd be remiss in not mentioning today marks the anniversary of this tragic event.  It's hard to forget since the memorial has stood beside our driveway for a year now, but today is especially tough as a constant stream of Paul's friends and family have been stopping and visiting the site.  They say time heals all, but I have to wonder just how much time?  I guess it's different for each individual but from what I'm seeing, a year is not long enough.  I'm still having a tough time and I didn't know him.

Superbowl Shenanigans ~ Melissa

my mom's kitchen...usually spotless...the mess is my fault ~ dinner was on us last night as a thank you & I was jumping back & forth between cooking & sewing

Special request from Jason....12th Man Beer Can hats for the boys' roadtrip to Arizona (they are Superbowl bound!!!).  So highbrow, cough cough, but every fan needs one, right?  We spent the weekend with my mom and these hats were a true group effort ~ I cut the cans into pieces and did the seaming, Jason punched all the holes in the aluminum, my mom used her mad crochet skills, and Dozer supervised!

They were a blast to make ~ sorry I can't share a recipe but we fudged these caps from beginning to end ~ they're freeform and custom fit.  There are tons of patterns out there, though...we just couldn't find one that suited our vision.  I think they turned out fantastic.  Jason thinks they are perfect, so that's all that matters anyway.

Note to self - when working against a deadline, make sure to allow time for the beer to be imbibed.  Sadly, this surprisingly tasty beer went down the drain except for a few small glasses.  Boo.  Hoo.

GO HAWKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

first snow ~ Melissa

brrrrrr......
baby it's cold outside!

Hoping everyone had a Thanksgiving they are thankful for.  I did.  Our holiday was spread out over Thursday and Friday.  It was good to spend time with both families and catch up with friends we haven't seen for far too long.  The snow came last night and it's cold enough it appears it's here to stay for a few days.  We've turned the page towards our year end celebrations and the house is a flurry of activity as the fall decorations get tucked away until next year and the Christmas loves slowly start appearing.

I'm looking forward to Christmas this year.  Last year was tough.  This year I'm soaking every bit of joy in through all my pores.

Are you all ready for December?
I am!

woolly babes ~ Melissa

Neoma Jane's little sister will be here anyday and I finished gifts in the nick of time.  Just need to wrap everything tonight and tomorrow they go over the mountains (and through the woods...hehe) to mama.  I blogged about the purple blanket here and the sweater here.  The pink blanket just finished drying this morning from it's blocking bath ( my ravelry notes can be found here ) :

There's nothing quite as blissful as knitting things for little ones and I feel so lucky to have two goddaughters to make things for.  And three lovely nieces who appreciate hand knit things as well.  Last year I made them all mittens for Christmas and you could tell they really loved them.

I finally made myself a matching pair (I've been busy!) :

They're Olla Mittens (free on knitty.com) or you can follow the link in my ravelry notes here.  I really love this pattern and the embroidery is super easy since Anna has you knit landmarks for the stitching as well as giving a really great diagram in the pattern (much like a kids 'dot to dot' puzzle ~ just follow the numbers).  Every girl should have a pair of these.

Go ahead, make yourself some.  You'll love them!

Happy Sunday, everybody!

Dear Bella ~ You made me tired just watching how hard you worked.

Bella is the tall girl in the back!

And so proud to see you beat personal bests in all four events...and then beat them again the next day ~ you took my breathe away .  I hope I can come see you swim at the state meet next weekend!  You worked so hard and I'm so glad I got to see your successes.  Thank you!!

soul healing summer ~ posted by Melissa

This seems to be a season of change.  Good change.  Big change.  Loved ones making some really hard, life altering decisions and I am so full of hope for them.  It's hard to see people you care deeply about, people that are good right down to their bones, struggle so much.  My wish for them is to come to a place where they are happy with who they are, inside and out.  That's all that matters.  To make that their goal and not worry about the rest.  I very much believe that if you are content with you and trust who you are as a person, you can affect changes in the people around you, so don't worry what the rest of us think or say or do.  Be happy and healthy and the rest will take care of itself.

Personally I've been making some changes, although they're all trivial in comparison.  But I'll share anyway ~ I've developed some weird body image issues that I'm trying to overcome before they get any worse.  I know they're stupid, but they're mine and they're real.  I haven't worn a pair of shorts in public for the last few years, so today I made myself wear a pair on my walk.  I felt horribly self-conscious showing everyone my stumpy, bowlegged, chubby, pale legs but they're MY legs and they're the only ones I've got.  They're not going to get any longer, less chubby, or unbowleggedy ~ although wearing shorts occasionally might take care of the translucent skin :).

I'll spare you by not blowing this one up any larger ~ ha!

I'm also going to try and get off the beaten path just a little.  This is a tough one for me since there have been some pretty scary moments in the past that have instilled a deep fear of being in secluded places alone, but I miss so much by being fearful that I've decided to try and get past it as much as possible.  So today I took these bowleggedy legs on a different walk that took me places I've not been by myself.  It was frightening ~ I won't lie ~ but I'm so proud that I did.  Here are some things I saw:

I know ~ .25 miles is not very long to be in the woods alone, but baby steps my friends.  I was ready to karate chop every little bird and critter I heard off the pathway if they decided to attack me but guess what, nothing happened and I lived to tell about it.  And that is a big deal.  Hooray for me!!

I'm making time for things that I thoroughly enjoy but for some reason have stopped making time for.  I've been reading like a fiend, working the NY Times Sunday crossword and I've picked up a long neglected needlepoint sampler and continued stitching...counted cross stitch, my first love and one I've had since I was in elementary school:

And finally, I've joined Andi at My Sister's Knitter in a finishing it up knitalong ~ and she also started a group on ravelry (there are prizes involved!!) ~ the link is here.  My wip's have gotten out of control and it's not like me to have so many things started and languishing ~ drives me absolutely nuts!  So, I'm putting an end to it ~ stay tuned as I work my way through all of this:

The top photo ~ knitalong projects so I'm not too concerned about quickly finishing these.  I'm mortified that the middle photo contains a poncho, 2 sweaters, a scarf and a baby blanket that just need finish work but I haven't bothered to finish any of it.  The last photo contains lacework (a curtain, a beaded winter table runner, a shawl and a scarf) as well as a baby sweater and a pair of socks.  I was never a monogamous knitter but this is out of control!  I won't be casting on another thing until I make a dent in this mess.  I'm saying it here so you all can hold me accountable!

Well, this turned into a pretty long post...sorry!  Mostly working through a bunch of stuff out loud it seems.  I'd love to hear what your goals are for the rest of the summer, and if you'd like to join Andi and I as we try to get the projects under control you're more than welcome!

I hope everyone has a happy, happy weekend and does something that makes them laugh out loud at least once or twice!   ~   Melissa
