Annual New Year Knitalong - posted by Melissa

Hiya, knitting peeps!
Gonna reel it back in this year. Last year was out of control with too many people and too many different projects and not many of us finished so back to what works best! One design and a common goal and I bet we can do better!

Kelli & I chose another Jared Flood lace ... because of course, what would a Girls in Sheep Clothing kal be without him? Seriously. He's our fearless leader, although unbeknownst to him!

This year's choice, an Orenburg style lace rectangular scarf ~ Stonecrop :
(all photos used with permission from Brooklyn Tweed)

This should be fun ~ most of the lace edging is incorporated as you go, with only the top-border being knitted on at the end. It can be made in 2 different sizes so you can choose your favorite.

Pattern is available for purchase on Ravelry or directly from Brooklyn Tweed's website  - link here.

We'll cast on together January 1st, so everyone has 2 weeks to gather materials. Let me know on Ravelry if you're interested (you can send me a pm here) & I'll get your info so I can add you as an author on the blog. Remember, this is a no rule kal. No deadlines and knit at your own pace.

Let's get this party started!

Melissa

  2. I was just wondering if there was going to be KAL and am thrilled to see this post.
I have already knit Stonecrop [twice], but I wouldn't mind knitting it again. I'm in!

  6. I can see myself knitting Flood's Stonecrop. I even have yarn that would be beautiful done up in this pattern. I'll at least put it in my fav's but won't be able to join in on this KAL. Have fun you guys. I'll make sure Carolyn sees this post. She might want to do it.

  8. Guilty here. I had intentions of finishing up Ludlow by the end of the year, but...well... it's far too easy for me to treat knitting like work, and lately I've been defiantly mercurial. I still hope to finish this winter, because I want to wear it!
I anticipate a slow start on Stonecrop, but I really would like to jump in on the KAL fun. I've already been mulling over yarn choices...

    2. I hope you finish Ludlow, Will, it's a stunner. Mine immediately became a table runner and does a proud job of it, too. It'll be fun to knit-a-long once again!!

  9. I'm in for Stonecrop. I have a yarn in mind and I'm jumping in with everybody else. I might be a little slow in progress this time because I'm starting Master Gardener training in Jan. as well. It will require a lot of my time for studying and one full day of classroom every week for 10 weeks. I'm really excited and I'll just have to learn to budget my time well (pipe dream)
. I always love the New Year's KAL with GISC!!!!

  10. Hello, I've just found this wonderful blog in an attempt to find help with the stonecrop pattern and would love to KAL. Im stumped after the first 12 rows. You cast on 13, end with 12 on row 12, yet how do you begin the repeat with only 12 stitches? I'd love some guidance.

    1. You're so welcome to join us, Jenny, but we don't cast on til January 1st (tradition). Tracey has knit this before so maybe if she reads your comment she might be able to give you some advance advice. Otherwise, stick around and we'll catch up to you in a week or so. You can contact me on Ravelry (twoknitwit) if you want to be able to blog with us and I'll get some info from you! - Melissa

    2. Jenny, the first 12 rows (beginning with the 13 stitches) are a short row corner, the last row of which ends with 12 stitches. You then move to the "bottom border chart" the first row of which starts with those 12 stitches. I hope this helps!

    3. Thank you! I'm excited to start this project. I'd like to participate in the KAL.

  11. I got it! You go to the chart in the back, not repeat rows 1-12.

  12. I've typed this a few times, but, alas, nothing seems to happen, so I am trying again on another computer.

What a beauty. Have fun with the KAL.

Merry Christmas! Also, my best wishes to you and Kelli for a joy filled New Year!

  13. It doesn't seem right starting out the year without a Brooklyn Tweed pattern! I am casting on a Channel Cardigan tonight! I'm going to miss knitting along with all of you, but I'll be cheering you all on from the sidelines!

  14. So happy to see this post! I attempted to start Stonecrop last year, but switched to Ludlow, which I did finish!! Just have never posted the photos. Am going to try to be so much better this year with my knitting. Way too many family transitions last year. Will be joining you all for Stonecrop - using Loft in Soot. Happy 2016 to all!!
