controlled chaos ~ posted by Melissa

Told you I'd be back :)

When life is out of control doesn't it make sense to push the envelope just a little bit more?
My husband's ongoing health saga has just reached the one year mark with no resolution and the sense of helplessness continues.  So, as a means of feeling in control of something (anything), I've been gearing up to join Andi's group on Ravelry when they kick off a new knitalong tomorrow.

It runs September 1st through December 31st and the goal is to concentrate on those pesky wip's ('works in progress' for you nonknitters).  Anyway, I put much thought into what my goals were for the remainder of 2014 and cast on everything that I have hopes of completing.  Today is the final day to cast on and have your project be included in the knitalong (yes, there are prizes!).

I have gifts that need to be finished during the next few months :

Knitalong projects to be completed before the end of the year :

Some fun things for me that are realistic goals :

A few things that will either be finished or frogged - it's time :

And if I get all these things done, some long term projects I'd like to make a dent in :

Surprisingly, this gigantic task doesn't have the Virgo in me the least bit stressed.  I have plans to tackle all these things and feel like I've accomplished something momentous.  I need that right now.

Do you have piles of started projects that are nagging at the back of your brain?  If you do, you should pop over to Andi's group and join us.  It's a fun bunch and they'll cheer you along during the next couple months as you start emptying your baskets and bags of unfinished knits.

Hope to see you there!
Melissa

    1. thanks ~ everything on the needles (except that icky mohair) is fun to work on and I've got every level of knitting to suit my mood (mindless, distracting, challenging...it's all there) ~ no more sitting and staring at the wall with idle hands (at least that's my goal)

  4. Oh my goodness that is quite the pile of WIPS!!!! Is it sad that I only have one thing on my needles???? I am sorry to hear that the health issues are still going. I wish I had a magic wand that could make everything better.

    1. as my favorite chemistry prof in college used to say (all the time) - 'there's a method to my madness'

this many wip's is so out of character for me but I did it on purpose ~ we'll see if my method drives me to madness :)

thanks for the continued well wishes ~

    2. I too have a method for my madness since on of my new patterns is done in two parts. One part is mindless and the other is lace. So when I get tired of knitting lace I switch to my mindless part of the project. It is like having two projects at once! I am loving it.

  6. Sorry... I was thinking about joining in on the WIP KAL, but it's not good timing for me. Duh. I will be dropping by, however, so see what everyone is accomplishing. '

Melissa -- how are you going to decide which project to start first?

  7. I have four wip's and having four is driving me nuts, if I had all your projects I would be a crazy lady ;) I really think I am a one or two project person so I am trying really hard to finish what I've started. I will be on the side lines cheering you on Melissa!

  9. I think I should do a similar post, with a run down of all my WIPs. I've been tempted to join the KAL as well. Knitting is always a great therapy for me. Finishing some of these WIPs will be really rewarding and hopefully bring a sense of control and joy to your life. Best of luck with them all. I'll be thinking about you and your husband and family and hope things improve.
And I'm so glad you're joining me in knitting socks in September! I'm trying to cast on for my pair but I'm having a hard time getting gauge---I think I'm just not comfortable knitting with such small needles.
