knitalong, anyone? ~ Melissa

I've completely dropped the ball on the upcoming anniversary of our annual New Year's knitalong here at Girls in Sheep Clothing.  I haven't had a chance to even touch bases with Kelli about whether anyone would like to knit with us this time around...it will be our seventh annual event if anyone is interested?  I've had a few people drop hints that they might like to play but I'm not sure I'm reading you folks right.  So....

I'm going to just go gangbusters here and throw out a few ideas ~ jump into the comments if you're interested in joining and if any of these designs appeal to you (maybe list your top 2).  I'll give everyone's comments some thought over the next week and hopefully by Sunday we'll have come to some common goal and I'll let everyone know what's been decided so there's still some time to get supplies together before we start.

Tradition had me scouring Brooklyn Tweed patterns for ideas and here is what I've come up with ~ I tried to find a good mix of designs :

1 - Stonecrop (a rectangular lace shawl)

2 - Tilt (a square lace shawl)

3 - Girasole (a circular lace shawl)

4 - Ashby (a textured triangular shawl)

5 - Ludlow (a rectangular textured shawl)

Here's the skinny cut and pasted from last year if you're new to the blog and curious about what we're up to:
"Our official cast on date is January 1st so you have plenty of time to gather your materials (and probably change your mind about your yarn choice at least a dozen times).  As usual, our knitalongs are stress free ~ no deadlines (we still have one person finishing up last year's kal...that would be me!) & blogging along is encouraged but not required.  If you'd like to join us, leave a comment below ~ if you've knitted with us before, you know the routine.  If this will be your first time, there's a tutorial on how to be a guest blogger (thanks again, Kelly!) once I've sent you your official invitation to participate."
Okay ~ jump in and let's chat!

  1. I am loving Ludlow and Stonecrop, not sure what my attraction to all things rectangular is, but there it is.
I am very interested. I have been knitting for everyone else for months and am ready for a little self knitting.

    1. I'm so excited (and not the slightest bit surprised) that your top two are also my favorites as well, Tracey!

I could go either way ~ I always love anything lace but Ludlow caught my eye the day it was released (probably the orange yarn...I'm a sucker for orange) ~ and I'm totally enamored with rectangles right now as well

I'll keep you posted (and I'm thrilled you'll join us this time!!)

  5. My top choice is Ashby ~ I even have the pattern already ;) I like Ludlow, but it's really close to Guernsey Wrap, which I was planning to knit this winter...

    1. I think Ashby and Stonecrop/Ludlow are neck & neck ~ I'm feeling a 'pick your favorite kal' coming on :)

are you really (really??) going to knit with us ~ I'm so excited every time but then I miss you when you disappear never to be seen again ~ hehe

    2. Please forgive me ~ Life sometimes gets in the way of my best intentions. I'm in on this one (for real!) LOL, actually really excited about it. Maybe the excitement will be contagious enough for me to bust out Streusel and make some progress ;)

    3. No need for forgivenss here, we all wish we could knit multiple knits at the same time. And have over excpectations that's why we have stashes, cause those darn cute patterns come out faster then we can finish others. Thank goodness. It will be great seeing you around Kelly.

  7. All of those possibilities are so beautiful! I'm going to have to pass this year. I don't have anything in my stash with enough yardage, and I have committed to not buying any yarn until I go to Stitches West at the end of February. I'll be on the sidelines ooh-ing and ah-ing as you all post your projects, though, and I'll aim for 2016 and join in on the next KAL!

    2. :) Yes! I likely will join! If it's Jared a free for all I will probably do Stone crop in a new Debbie Bliss tweed yarn that I recently bought! I have not piped up often on the blog, but I check in a couple times a week! Miss seeing you guys!!

  9. I like stonecrop! (sorry no number two....) You know I love to follow along and see what everyone is knitting anyways :)

  10. Happy Christmas, everyone! So what have we decided? I think I would use different yarn, depending on the project. Ashby would get some Felted Tweed, and Stonecrop might get Loft, unless I can unearth something from stash...

    1. I think the decision is NO DECISION...I feel like we're so divided that if I pick any one thing I might lose the majority of the knitters...
I think this may be a Brooklyn Tweed Free For All and we can just all pick a Jared Flood or Wool People design and knit together anyway (plus this might tempt us all to try one of the other knits that we may not have otherwise?)

      thoughts???

    2. Free for all it is! I think it will be fun to see all the different designs that people will be knitting.

    3. we got a few more takers as soon as I mentioned free for all....I think this may be a blast!

  11. I'm putting in a vote for Ludlow - most yardage, smallest needles. I like the variation of pattern throughout. Tilt is same construction as Spire so I'm looking for something a little different. Stonecrop is beautiful but I wouldn't pick it myself. (I'd probably love it.) Girasole is so pretty but I'm not particularly into the round thing. Ashby looks like a lot of fun, but it's worsted. I would not wear it as much. So, I'll knit whatever the group chooses but my vote is for Ludlow. Merry Christmas all!

    1. I will be glad to have you along again, Andrea ~ and I want you to knit something that you really want to knit so one more comment pushing me towards a 'Jared Flood/Brooklyn Tweed Free For All'

      thoughts?

  12. Free for all is nice for the added variety... I like Stonecrop and Tilt best of the options.

  14. Heh, heh, got my pattern, got my yarn today at Wildfibers. Saw Kelli and her hubby shoppin' the sale. I've got 6 skeins of the Debbie Bliss Donegal Tweed (gulp, splurge) to double-strand the Ludlow. I don't know if I can wait until New Year's Day to cast on. I'll do my best to control the urge. I'll get a picture up soon. Oh boy, oh boy!
