Impromptu KAL for Rachel's Shawl ~ posted by Melissa

I was hesitant to do a knitalong since I decided to charge (and donate) the money from the Rachel's Shawl pattern, but enough people have voiced that they would still like to play that it shall be done!

We're starting now and it will go til...whenever it's done!  If you have yarn and pattern already, and are added as a guest blogger, you're good to go!  If you have never blogged along with us and would like to, pm me on Ravelry with your email address (don't do it here where it's public!) and I'll send you an invite so you have blogging privileges.

If you haven't purchased your pattern yet and would like to:

The link works even if you are not a Ravelry member, but you do have to use paypal to purchase the pattern.  Also, if you haven't been following along this last week, the information about where the money will be going is on the pattern page and can also be found in the last few blog posts.  It's a very worthy cause and will make an event happen next year that may not have enough funding otherwise, so we're doing a good thing!

I just got my yarn (I'm making an aran weight version with Rowan Felted Tweed in 'Pebble') and am casting on immediately!

Thanks again for such a supportive response ~ we've raised $200 $212 $276  $316(!) already!  You all rock!!
~Melissa

I've added some links for easy searching :

  1. I'm in! What size needle would you recommend for sport weight? I was going to go with a size 6 and light pink Misti Alpaca.

    1. lovely :) ~ I did a sport weight cotton with US7 needles but I think a 6 would be great with the alpaca (the one I did was 100% cotton)

Hooray ~ our first kal'er and you're fianlly back to knitalong, Kelly!

    2. Yahoo! I can't cast on until tomorrow though, until I get the pattern printed out.

I was happily knitting a bit on Ashby when I heard the doorknob turn and click, even though it was locked...Hello, 911? The officer who stopped by said he didn't see anything suspicious, and I even acknowledged that it could have been the wind, but I'm officially spooked. I seriously suspect that someone tested my locks tonight...

    3. oh I could share stories with you ~eek!! THAT is COMPLETELY SCARY!! is your husband home? are the police going to do drivebys tonight to check on you?

    4. Husband is home, thank god, and the police station is about 6 blocks away. The officer said he would drive around for awhile, so that does ease my mind. Plus, since my doors are locked, we have probably been dismissed for not being an easy target. But still SCARY!

I live in an older house, built in 1923, and we get creaks and snaps, and whatnot, but I've never heard anything like this before. My first thought was that my stepdaughter was unlocking the door, but then it was completely silent and I immediately checked my other door and called the police.

    6. Sure thing, I'm starting to settle down and I haven't heard any more noises, so I might get some sleep tonight after all! LOL, the drama!!!

  4. I love your choice of yarn. You should hire out as a knitting consultant (or not).

Thanks for asking if I wanted to join in this KAL. Looking forward to it.

  5. I should be able to knit these hats in my sleep by now. :) I'll find a way to do both. I hate to miss out on this KAL. You people are too fun.

Enjoy the game. I'm going to sit on the deck and knit while the sun still shines; check on the M's from time to time. Usually if I don't watch they win. Better for them.

    2. Well thank heaven Survivor will be starting next week. Something I can understand. Shameful, huh? I have not lowered myself to the Bachelorette, however, or dancing with the stars. I'm sure many have, but those are not my cut of tea.

    3. sports are the only reality tv we watch ~ we did the first season of Survivor and the first season of American Idol for the novelty of it but no other shows since then
