silent fingers ~ posted by Melissa

And O, ye swelling hills, and spacious plains Besprent from shore to shore with steeple-towers, And spires whose ‘silent finger points to heaven’… - William Wordsworth 1770–1850

The top photo is the yarn I chose for the Girls in Sheep Clothing New Years Knitalong.

I am so lucky to have won a giveaway on lori's blog & so glad that she knows Karen & Pat at Crows Nest Studios who made the blue pottery yarn bowl that is my prize ~ thank you, Lori & Karen & Pat!

...& I went from having no yarn bowls to two (aren't I lucky!) when I received the handmade cherry bowl for Christmas from Kelli ~ it was made by the husband of one of the gals in our knitting group...thanks Kelli & Diane & Mr Diane :).

My sister who is not a knitter has been surprising me the last few years with sweet handmade tags for the knits I gift ~ she finds the best shops on etsy (the tags above can be found here and here ~ they're almost too pretty to use, don't you think?

That's it for today ~ mostly some eye candy for your enjoyment ~ I hope to have some knitting to share by the end of the weekend!

Hope your not per-SPIRE-ing too much from burning up the needles, Kelli & Andrea!

    1. It wasn't there, but since 1:58 I have not sat down!!!! My house is clean, the kids have had lots of arts and crafts, now it is time for me to finish knitting my poncho so I'll be ready when it comes in the mail.

  2. Gorgeous post! I cast on yesterday, and was super excited to knit some more today, until I damaged my thumb. It doesn't look like I'll be knitting until next week, very sad! But maybe I'll be right on track with most of the group??? (Except for our speed demons!!!)

    1. ack, NO! what did you do?

Andee hasn't started and she's spinning fiber first that hasn't even come ~ I just keep staring at my yarn feeling intimidated & stalling I think to begin :)

    2. It's actually too cringe-worthy to say. (I am sheltering all of you, trust me!) I should be knitting in a few days, so it's not a big deal. On the plus side, I won't be able to do any cleaning either!

  4. Nice pottery yarn bowl, you're welcome for the wood one...David is Mrs Diane. Why are you waiting to cast on? Your colors are exciting, to me your shawl will be very elegant.

    1. I know it will be all consuming so I was trying to make sure I got a few things done before casting on that I knew wouldn't get done otherwise

      I'm on row 7 of chart A :)))

  5. Hey there, Wordsworth!

Ooh, I'm still not jumping in on this KAL, but your color choice is quite in-SPIRE-ing. I really want to see it completed!

I'm loving those gifts... especially the cherry yarn bowl. Maybe it's all the wood in this room where I'm typing - wood floor, antique spinning wheels, a book case, a harp... it just has a physical and visual warmth that's nice, and I'm imagining the sound it makes when you tap it.

Go ahead, call me weird. I'll not deny it.

    1. I'd never call you names, Will ~ I've been smelling the bowl which I'm not sure is any less strange than tapping on it (it still smells like tung oil it's so new!)

I like to imagine how your harp sounds when you play it :)

  6. Oh, the puns never stop! Nice post, Melissa. I can't wait to see your shawl start to take shape. I didn't make any more progress yesterday because I put together a 1000 piece puzzle I received from my brother for Christmas. It's the covers of many 1950's cookbooks, Man-Pleasing Salads, The I Hate to Cookbook, etc. Today I take down the Christmas tree and all that stuff. I'll probably get to sit down and burn up those needles tonight sometime. No rest for the "wicked", as they say. Kelli, have you finished yet?

    1. how fun, Andrea ~ we usually do a puzzle over the holidays but didn't get one this year (I had forgotten about it we've been so busy & now I'm sad we didn't get one started!)
