happy new year! ~ guest blogger Juliann

I did a bit of knitting for gauge swatches while we watched a movie and sipped champagne last night.  We are not really New Year's Eve people so there was no staying up until midnight to cast on for me.
This morning, I sat down with my coffee and the Ashby pattern and read through the very detailed instructions again.  This is my first Flood pattern although I have a number of his patterns in my favorites on Ravelry.  I do believe this one will stretch my knitting skills which is wonderful.
I am happy to be here with you all.  I jumped over after seeing Karen's post about the KAL and found that Melissa had just been to Tolt Yarn and Wool - probably very close to the time I was there this week.
I am actually off to Seattle today to visit my parents and then will get down to the business of casting on this afternoon.  BTW - my yarn is Berroco Vintage which I actually bought last year to knit a Brooklyn Tweed sweater that never made it past the the bottom band.

  1. Welcome! I'm knitting Ashby too ~ also a bit of a stretch, since I'm not really versed in cables. It's good to push yourself toward personal growth though! We'll get through the tricky parts together ;)

  2. Hi Juliann,

I'm Kelli, with an i. What a great post to wake up to and read this new year. Glad you're joining! Cables are easy to do, and a favorite cause they add so much more for how simple they are, once you get the hang of them. I haven't knitted Ashby, but have done Jared Flood shawls/cables and am will to help if I can. I'm sure Youtube has good videos on cabling too.

The sun is out, the air is crisp, I can see frost blanketed the ground, a lovely day to knit knowing others are busy in the same boat. Probably one of my favorite things will happen today, I'll knit myself into a nap.

    See you around ~

    4. Thanks Kelli - I am more nervous about the construction and charts than the cables but when I get stuck, I will give a shout

    1. Our dog Jackson was a balled up as close as he could to get to me, scared like he gets, I tried to get a picture of the small space the big Golden Retriever got in, but he unfolded out of it before I could snap the shot.
      Happy New Year sister~

There's always a learning curve with each new project, but you'll get to sailing along and wonder why you worried. Happy New Year. I can't wait to see how Ashby comes along.

  5. This will be so pretty. I cast on last night and am on chart A. I will let you know a bit of a trick, at least something that I have been doing. the 1x1 cables can be done with out a cable needle and it makes it go much quicker. I place my needle one stitch a stitch over purl and then purl the next stitch. It make the process go faster... at least for me.

    1. I got about halfway through chart A and used that no cable needle method too.

    2. Cabling without cable needles is the way to go on this project!

    3. I agree. I seem to be okay with 1x1 twists but some of the other ones are a bigger mind bend for me. I hope to get more comfortable with this in the new year.
