little nupps on the prairie ~ a post by Melissa
My Chart A : I'm up to row 23. I decided to use the stitch markers (I usually don't) since backing out an entire nupp row took me an hour yesterday. Now I count each repeat as I complete it ~ 16 stitches between markers ~ just on those rows. It sure is easier to catch and fix errors right when you make them! Darn Olympics and too many midnight bedtimes this week! I'm tired :) !! How is everyone doing? Can't wait to see some photos of how your yarn is knitting up...now it's back to work! ~ Melissa

ReplyDeletemy first row of nupps were tight, but I soon learned to loosen up those 7 stiches and yo's. now my fingers don't have to work so hard.

wow that's so pretty, i love your wool and this pattern. i so wish i could have done this with you, maybe next time. i bought the book the minute it came out, i love every pattern in it, but i think this shawl is my favorite! no stitch markers? eeps!
ReplyDeletehappy knitting (love your post title!)
I just read somewhere that nupps are pronounced "Noops" as in "Soups", and now I can't get that thought out of my head. HAHAHAHA. Anyway, I just purled my first "Noop" row, and after fighting to pull the yarn through seven stitches, I pulled out a tiny crochet hook. I use that to knit the nupp stitch, then I place the live stitch on my needle, all in one swoop. Works like a charm.
ReplyDeletestitch markers are your friends! Love the color and the tiny nupps :)
ReplyDeleteJealous already...it looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteI love nupps! By "love" I mean "hate doing them but love saying 'nooooooooooooooooOOP!' each time I do the purl together part." Damn nupps. But they sure do look nice.
ReplyDeleteI need to take a picture of my Yet Another Heirloom Blanket Are You Done With These Already progress!
I finish my nupps on the same row I start them so I don't have to purl on the way back ~ I struggled so much when I learned to do them since I knit so tightly, someone on rav offered up a priceless tip for me that made all the difference! thank goodness! Mel
